ESD031 | vicovico’s gift for bringing people together extends far beyond the decks
Today, Emotional Support Dog welcomes Vico, someone who holds a special place in this journey.
Twice, he joined us for Sound Journey Sundays and played magnificent sets. Twice, fate had other plans for the recordings. So this one feels long overdue: a beautiful mixtape that opens a window into his collection and the musical worlds he so thoughtfully brings together. Expect a sublime and certainly playful selection that draws you in, rewards your attention, and keeps you company as the day unfolds.
Vico’s gift for bringing people together extends beyond the decks. He’s one of the finest hosts I know, and his 'papanasch' events bring food, music and people together with that same care. If you get the chance to experience one, definitely go for it.
On a personal note, I’m deeply grateful to know him. In his own way, Vico has been an emotional support dawg to me many times, through the simple feeling of being welcome as I am. His warmth, his positive outlook, and the care he brings to human connection embody so much of what this project means.
Happy to finally share this with you. Thank you, Vico.
A conversation beyond:
Do you sometimes go out to escape something — or to find something?
Not by default; I tend to go out intentionally, on one hand, usually to pursue inspiration in matters of ingenuity and innovation from some artists, other times for technique, or just to discover new music. And on the other hand, I like to go out with my friends just to spend time and have fun with them, honestly mostly for the laughs:)
What can you let go of on a dancefloor that is harder to let go of elsewhere?
Nowadays it’s hard to say, but in my raving beginnings I was quite a shy and reserved individual, and through enhanced experiences and thanks to the openness of the people, I managed to let go of some self-expression blockages.
What emotions tend to stay with you after a night out?
Due to my clear intentions, I would say mostly positive; I find myself often inspired and happy and rarely even blissful:) But of course, as we all know, sometimes it’s not meant to be, no matter how much you believe in the circumstances.
What do you learn about yourself through music, dancing and being together?
I realized this kind of celebration or ceremony is one of the last pillars of modern communities, where people can exist and express themselves freely. Frankly, I'm deeply concerned about its future, this being one of the reasons for which I decided to rather become a prosumer in the scene.
What do you wish you could take home from the dancefloor?
Sometimes I would like to take an artist and lock them in the living room for private listening and study; other times, a crazy sound system or mixer.
